Dr. John's Spin Factory brings your attention to the late 60's. It's 1967 to be exact and The Turtles struck gold with their top 40's hit, "Happy Together." Now...Here's a bit of relevant history... Fast forward just two years to 1969 when vocalists Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan (the voices of the Turtles) stepped on stage with (surprise!!) Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention and became.."The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie!" Soon thereafter, after leaving the mad entourage of Zappa and the Mothers, Mark Volman shortened his moniker to 'Flo" and hence was born 'Flo & Eddie.' Okay, enough history...
What's up for sale is truly a FUN album. In 1967 when I was 14 this music brought many a smile and lots of dancing around our little dining room. And while I am generally prefer original pressings, in this case, the vinyl and sound quality of this Rhino Records reissue just clobbers the White Whale original, the likes of which I bought from K-Mart in 1967. So...have some fun and enjoy Flo and Eddie when they were just themselves, Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan. These two 'Turtles' really did generate some of the the most unique and satisfying male harmonies of any 60's group. (I always wished I could sing like either of them!) May you find room in your collection for this fine, SEALED (new old stock), Rhino Records, 1983 reissue. Keep dancing and Be Happy Together!! Dr. John
