Description

For sale is The Velvet Underground's sought-after third self-titled album. It is a 1970 pressing and is a rare half closet mix half Valentin mix album. For those that don't know, this album was released in two mixes. One was mixed by Lou Reed himself usually known as the closet mix and the other mixed by MGM engineer Val Valentin known as the Valentin mix. The closet mix can only be found in its entirety on first US issues and the Peel Slowly and See box released in 1995 but some split-side European issues like this one exist where the A-side is the closet mix and the B-side is the Valentin mix. There are some significant sound differences between the two including the third track Some Kinda Love being completely different takes on either mix.
The cover is Very Good it has a 70s pinched spine indicating its age. There is minor wear and rubbing on the edges and the spine is fading but still looks presentable.
The record is Excellent there is a scratch on each side which is visible but doesn't affect sound. It has just the usual crackle on some of the quieter tracks but nothing intrusive. The sound is very nice and it never skipped for me at all. The original owner has neatly wrote his name on both sides of the label but it is barely noticeable.
An original poly-lined Headhunters music inner sleeve is present which can be found in some other 70s albums and it's in Near Mint condition. There are no creases, rips, writing or splits and it looks almost new! Info on all the bands of the day is found on one side along with pictures of various bands on the other.
I'm also selling Lou Reed's Transformer album, have a look if you have a minute.
