Description
This album was purchased by me 54 years ago.
A great copy of this first edition LP with A1/B1 matrices, recorded live at Leeds University on 14 February, 1970. The package consists of a gatefold ‘bootleg’ style sleeve in textured brown card with stapled pockets. An extremely rare, genuine first UK press vinyl LP on Track/Polydor records.
Apparently, according to my research only 300 copies were made with the album title and Track logo printed in black (not the later blue or red). There are 11 inserts present as below but the original greaseproof bag is not there :-
1. The High Numbers dates in 1964 on folded yellow thin paper
2. EMI Records letter to Chris Lambert re the High Numbers
3. Typed lyrics to My Generation with hand written notes
4. Takings and expenses sheet from the Marquee 1st December 1964
5. The Who Maximum R&B poster for their regular Tuesday stint at the Marquee in 1964/5
6. New Action folded sheet of dates in 1965
7. Request NOTICE by Jennings Musical Industries for the return of hired Vox guitar and bass March1965.
FOR SOME REASON I HAVE 2 COPIES OF THIS NOTICE
8. Letter cancelling concert at the Locarno Ballroom 15th April 1965
9. Delivery note for smoke generators from Brocks Fireworks 25th May 1967. These may have been used at the Monterey Festival in June '67
10. Black and white photo of the band looking straight ahead
11. Booking form for the Who at Woodstock 16th August 1969
The photo of Townsend on stage with his guitar above his head is missing. I can’t remember if it was ever there. Maybe I got the 2 Notice inserts instead, by mistake!!
Having play graded the album, bearing in mind the ‘CRACKLING NOISES O.K. DO NOT CORRECT’ on the labels, I grade the vinyl and the cover as VG as per the old Record Collector gradings. There is no warping and there are no jumps but some surface noise and one or two pops.
Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeablesurface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects
is acceptable
The inserts are even cleaner. I don't know if the inner is the original.
My name is written on the inside of the cover and on the A side label.

This is an extremely rare copy of a great album and an opportunity for a collector to own a piece of great musical history.
