Description
Quadrophenia UK 1st Press from 1973 on TRACK records. Matrix A1/B2/A1/B2. Firstly - do understand that this is a genuine 1st pressing..unlike many others that purport to be so, and are not! The record labels are matt black light textured and there is no ridge - if it does not fit this description or matrix numbers - it is not a 1st press! The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with 44 page booklet fitted inside. This is the very 1st issue of the cover - soft card and with a wide spine stating 'TRACK DOUBLE DELUXE 2657013'. Also included are the original white 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeves with matching coding.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In absolutely superb condition and has clearly seen only light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of very light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with minimal interference. It's worth sourcing a genuine 1st issue because they were pressed prior to the oil crisis which hit shortly after 1st release. As a result the first copies are the heaviest and capture the true essence of the recording. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Interference is minimal - we detected nothing more than a touch of light static in one or two isolated moments. This really is a very very well preserved specimen indeed.
Cover (Ex) Ok, so if you've ever felt one of these original covers you'll understand why they are so difficult to find in top class condition. The paper/card used is very light and soft - an unusual design for a heavy double LP with a 44 page booklet inside! This often leads to them looking quite battered after years of use - particularly on the surface wear side of things. This copy, however, seems to have been looked after by one very careful individual. The surfaces are showing very little wear at all - only one or two tiny spots that's all. Instead of the cover feeling battered - it feels flat, secure, and pretty rigid. The interior is also in well above average condition. The pages do not feel heavily thumbed - they are all intact. The only thing to note is that the final page has been taped onto the gatefold at the mid-point of the right interior side of the gatefold. All the lyrics on the final sheet are still fully viewable as are the album details on the right side of the gatefold. The only thing you miss out on is a bit of the beach image on the final page [that's all] - nothing else is obscured. Also, as is often the case, the booklet whilst fully intact and complete has come away from the gatefold [in one piece].
Inners (Ex) In excellent condition. No splits. Minimal ageing.
