Description
I bought this on pre-order 1973 .
These images show Record 1, Side A of your Quadrophenia set, and its runout matrix numbers tell an incredibly cool story about the history of your specific copy.🔎 1. Matrix Code & Historical Insight Looking closely at the glossy runout groove on this side, we can read the stamped text: 2406-110 A ▽ 2 followed by the numbers 1 2 and 8 spread further down the line. Here is what that tells us about this record:The A ▽ 2 Detail: The number after the triangle tells us this side was pressed using the second lacquer cut (▽ 2) ever made for Side A.The Re-cut History: When Quadrophenia was being manufactured in the autumn of 1973, demand was so massive that the very first lacquer master (▽ 1) wore out almost immediately at the pressing plant. Engineers had to rush and cut a second master lacquer (▽ 2) right away during the opening weeks of production to keep the factory machines moving. The Stamper Details: The 1 2 indicates it is from Mother shell #1, and the 8 means it was stamped out by Stamper #8.The Verdict: This confirms your set is a mixed first-pressing batch. Record stores in 1973 were packed with boxes where Record 1 had a ▽ 2 matrix and Record 2 had a ▽ 1 matrix (like the Side C showes). They were all packed into the very first delivery trucks together.
