For sale is this Japanese issue vinyl 7" promo single, in original record company sleeve sleeve with single-sided insert, by The Who. Entitled The Relay, the B-side is Wasp Man. On the Track label, the catalogue number is ECPA 70-TR and the date of issue is 1973. This is a previously undocumented release. The catalogue number of the released single was ECPB 210-TR and there are also promo copies with this catalogue number with a glossy double-sided insert. The single appears to have originally been planned to have thes catalogue number ECPA 70-TR and some promos were obviously pressed before the catalogue number was changed for some reason. This copy originally had a small sticker over the catalogue number on the A-side label with the revised number (ECPB 210-TR) handwritten on it but this has long since dried up and fallen off. The insert is of a lower print quality than the later released insert and looks to have been rushed out for promos when the catalogue number was changed (as it has the corrected ECPB 200-TR number printed on it). Matrix numbers of the vinyl are ECPA-70A1 and ECPB-70B1.
Condition
The vinyl is in Very Good condition.
The labels are in Very Good condition with clear, perfect printing but a sticker mark on the A-side from the handwritten catalogue number sticker and a few scuffs on the B-side (see pics). The record has a large centre hole.
The record company sleeve and the printed insert both have a sellotape mark where they were previously taped together (see pics). The insert is in Very Good condition with a bit of blue tack residue and a number written on the reverse (see pics).
All vinyl records are strictly graded according to Record Collector magazine's grading system, the long established UK standard, with any specific flaws mentioned along with the grading. They are sent in custom-made mailers, with built-in or added stiffeners, and are packaged outside their sleeves to prevent edge splits. Singles without a picture sleeve will either have a plain sleeve or a correct-era original (not repro) record company sleeve (stated above). Original record company sleeves may not be the exact sleeve issued with the single so may have a different catalogue number hand-written in the corner but they will be the correct design for the single. They may have a bit of wear, writing, stickers, sticker marks etc but will be in a generally good, useable condition without edge splits or sellotape.
