Description

An original 1st press of TOMMY on the UK Track label from 1969. Matrix 1/1/1/1 - very 1st cut. All four labels are perfectly consistent with 1st press and all mention "DOUBLE ALBUM" in a large font. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original fully-laminated gatefold cover [per 1st issue]. In addition we have the lyric booklet which is numbered "17809" [not fully complete] and both original inner sleeves date coded to spring-69. So, 100% genuine and 98% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks per side, and a couple of semi-feelable ones on side 2 that do sound [see details below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback, or greater..with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Nice and clean even in the low-key sections, but powerful and energetic in the more complex passages. It's a super player! Interference is mostly absent, but expect a few minor crackles in a couple of isolated moments per disc. The only deviation is Track 2 on side 2. There are a couple of semi-feelable marks which cause a few clicks in the first half of the track and, then, a few ticks in the second half. This is the only track where there is audible defect - and even then the track is still perfectly listenable. Do not let this distract you from the remaining 98% of the LP which delivers a commanding and accomplished rendition.
Cover (Ex-) In great shape and the fully laminated copies do look rather smart. The laminate always helps to protect this title and this cover is looking very nice indeed. Lovely clean and shiny front and back with those lovely blue hues all perfectly preserved. I can only make out a couple of tiny creases back and front. The interior looks great - a two inch upper seam split at the opening has been internally repaired [only cosmetic now]. Edge wear is light for this title with just a tiny amount on the spine. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity and remains a very impressive example.
Inners (Ex-) Light ageing at extremities. No splits or markings though.
Booklet (Vg) A crease through the centre. I believe one of the lyric pages is missing. So, I think that means only 50% of the lyrics are present. Otherwise aok.
