Description
An original 1st press of WN on the UK Track label from summer 1971. Matrix 1/2. Etching "MG12888". Note 1st pressings are easy to distinguish from later copies with the labels being matt and flat, NOT shiny or ridged. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MacNeill heavy card cover with pinched spine. Also included is a plastic bag warning inner sleeve date coded to July 1971 [07-71] a full month prior to first release. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In amazing condition and has clearly only seen the very lightest use. Under close inspection there's a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. If you are looking for the BEST POSSIBLE rendition which will smoke every other copy out there - I would be seriously considering this example. Intros and inbetweens are very very quiet indeed and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. This example is within the best couple of copies I've ever witnessed. Decent playing copies of WN are not all that difficult to find. Really pristine perfectly preserved copies, however, are much more difficult to source. The owner of this LP was clearly one fastidious individual. Beautifully clean playing audio even in those slow build and fade-out sections. I don't recall hearing a copy play this clean for a long time...Expect nothing more than a couple of light crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side [e.g. side 1 intro]. Make no mistake about it - playback that solid and consistent is extremely unusual. I'm finding it hard to find fault. Any serious collector looking for a top-level keeper needs to carefully consider this example...When they're gone...they're GONE. Final Upgrade.
Cover (Ex) I can't begin to tell you how unusual it is to find the original WN MacNeill cover looking this good. They were not laminated and are extremley prone to wear at the edges, and particularly on the rear. Take a look at this example and then go and compare other covers out there. This one is preserved to a really high level. The front is lovely and clean, flat, without ageing, and only a couple of minor thumbnail creases. The rear is quite frankly stunning. Lovely deep blacks without the dreaded ring wear that is so often exhibited. At worst a couple of minor thumbnail creases. Edge wear is extremely limited - and on this title this is like finding a needle in a hay-stack...the openings are still sharp and the spine is borderline perfect. It's totally square with those pinched ends in stunning condition. The text is all perfectly legible. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity and lies totally flat. You're unlikely to ever match it - let alone surpass it..
Inner (Vg+) The 'Day of Release' inner is in Vg+ condition. No splits or markings. Bit if ageing along the bottom.
