Description

An original 1st press of WN on the UK Track label from 1971. Matrix 2/1 - very 1st cut. Etching "MG12888" - found on the earliest copies. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MacNeill heavy-card deluxe cover marketed by Polydor. There were many variations of the cover over the following years - make sure you are dealing with a 1st issue as they are MUCH nicer. Also included is the original poly-lined 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeve from the period [but not summer-71]. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In superb condition and has clearly only seen very light use. Under close inspection I'm struggling to make out a single mark - the surfaces look like mirrors. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. This really is a beaut of a copy the audio is to die for! Don't waste your time on a vaguely good copy. By the best you can get your hands on - one that is unusually well preserved. It plays clean all the way through and you can really hear it in the audio - superb transparency. And don't forget this Lp does have slow build intros - it can suffer on copies which have seen moderate use. This copy plays the quieter moments without background. All I could detect were a few low-key crackles in a couple of spots [e.g. the opening intros to both sides which is practically obligatory...it's very minor and brief]. I detected one solitary tick in the opening to 'Blue Eyes'. Overall a stellar copy that you'd be hard pushed to equal let alone better.
Cover (Ex) Wow, a very very solid looking cover and not all look like this after this period of time. First thing to mention is the solidity in the cover. Later copies are flimsy - the first copies are solid card and it really does make all the difference. Surfaces are clean and unaged and the cover lies totally flat. The rear is equally impressive. Usually find a lot of surface wear on the rear, bit not on this example. Only super-light-handling is observable and the blacks are nice and deep. Edge wear is pretty much non-existent and the openings still sharp. There's a tiny 1c.m. patch of light wear on the top edge [in the middle] - very very minor. The spine is absolutely superb and very unusual to find like this - fully square with barely any wear. Overall a seriously nice specimen that you'd be hard pressed to replicate.
Inner (Ex-) Lightest ageing at extremities. No splits.
