Founded in 1909, the Yale Whiffenpoofs have been synonymous with college singing at its best for over fifty years. Singing a mixture of old and new songs, the Whiffenpoofs of 1961 have been known for their big sound and their infectious good cheer. Like their predecessors the Whiffs can be heard every Monday night at Mory's, the undergraduate eating association hallowed in the "Whiffenpoof Sing". The Whiffs are exciting to hear as they perform for their dinner and fun to watch as they down the famous green cups.

What does it mean to be a Whiffenpoof? The Whiffs met at Lake Placid for ten days of rehearsing before the school year began. During this period, they learned over thirty songs and formed occasional raiding parties to nearby resort clubs. During the football season, the Whiffs sang at Yale fraternities and colleges, happy to join in the spirit of an undefeated football season. Over the Christmas holidays, the group appeared with the Yale Glee Club in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, and Richmond, adding an informal touch to the concert tour. A bucket, of ice and "Stakin's" bottle of Worcestershire sauce turned more than one bus ride into a memborable trip.
