Description
Up for purchase here is a rare find, a Riverside mono copy of Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington that is STILL SEALED in its original shrink. Two things lead me to believe that the LP is an early, or possibly even first, deep groove press of this classic album. The first is the early Bill Gauer markings obc. The second is that a thick, heavy stock vinyl can clearly be felt through the cover. While I obviously can't confirm the labels or groove of the vinyl, I have certainly seen the OG small-label deep groove paired with this exact cover (see completed auction item number 172484695030 for an example of identical cover, address and markings paired with the OG small label DG labels).
The packaging is in outstanding condition. The shrink is tight and complete and the corners are nice. There is a crease that can be seen across the top right corner that I believe was created as the shrink tightened with age. Also includes the original $1.98 price sticker (on shrink not cover), which is pretty cool as well. Overall, a gorgeous package and cover. Lots of pics, so check them out.
