Description
I bought this box set about 10 years ago at Amoeba Records. It was $249 plus tax. I thought that was pretty reasonable price for 22 records, of Thelonius Monk all in one set. My presumption was that the records would be nearly unplayed by whomever owned them before me, and that was definitely the case. I think some of the vinyl hadn't even been played previously, just maybe only a couple had been. The booklet didn't have any fingerprints either. So, I had a Numark turntable and a brand new Shure M44 cartridge to play these records. I played these records several times each over the course of a year or two. There's a few sides I like more than others, depending on the tune or the sidesmen or whatever, so I played those more.
After that, I moved from my apartment in 2009 and had to sell most possessions but not this box set because Amoeba only wanted to give me $50 back for it and I was like, nah I'll just keep it. Now I still have it, unplayed for the last 7 years because I don't have a record player. I thought maybe I'd buy one, but I haven't.
I'm not that knowledgeable on record grading, but calling it VG+ sounds reasonable to me, since all I ever did was take them out one at a time on occasion and play it and put it back in the sleeve afterwards.
