Description
We are thrilled and honoured to be offering for sale a number of items from the late Stan Tracey's own personal collection on behalf of his son Clark Tracey. This includes many extremely rare albums, some purchased by Stan during his time in New York, plus test pressings and other gems collected over his lifetime as a musician and composer.
An original 1957 US Mono copy of Thelonious Monk - Thelonious Himself released on the white/blue Riverside Deepgroove mic & reels label, Bill Grauer Productions no inc. The US & GB Patent nos. are stamped in the runout grooves.
Degritter cleaned, the vinyl is spotlessly clean with good lustre and a few visible scuffs, marks and hairlines but no feelable damage. Clean labels and spindle holes - graded VG.
Playback reveals a good vibrant mono sound with depth and immediacy. It plays through well with some low background noise particularly on Side 2 but no jumping or sticking.
The outer sleeve has corner rubbing & substantial wear to the top seam which has been repaired with tape. The spine has completely worn away & is split. The rear notes section is discoloured but completely readable. See photos.
The original inner sleeve was not present. We have decanted the record into a brand new inner sleeve to preserve it.
A rare copy of a sought after album for a collector- possibly a placeholder copy?
The record will be sent separated out in an archival outer sleeve to prevent transit splits.
