Them Crooked Vultures — original 2009 US DGC/Interscope B0013785-01, pressed across two 180-gram LPs.

This is the sought-after original US vinyl issue—not a later unofficial pressing. The lineup is ridiculous: Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age on guitar/vocals, Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters behind the drums, and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin on bass, keyboards and everything else required to make the bottom end enormous. The band produced the album themselves, with Alan Moulder recording/mixing and Brian Gardner mastering.

And the record delivers: “No One Loves Me & Neither Do I,” “Mind Eraser, No Chaser,” “New Fang,” “Dead End Friends,” “Elephants,” “Scumbag Blues,” “Bandoliers,” “Reptiles,” “Gunman” and “Spinning in Daffodils.”

Heavy, weird, dirty and exceptionally well played—three musicians with nothing to prove making a record because they clearly wanted to make one.

Original 2009 US copies have become legitimately collectible, particularly as clean copies disappear into collections. This one remains a strong VG+/VG+ example of the original 180g double-LP pressing.
