This handsome and rare LP from His Master’s Voice (COLH 92, English EMI pressing, “Great Recordings of the Century” series, gray label, mono, full-size booklet included, glossy laminated flipback jacket) features Jacques Thibaud and Alfred Cortot's legendary account of Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major Op. 47 "Kreutzer", recorded at the Salle Chopin and the Salle Pleyel, Paris on 27 and 28 May 1929.
Filling out the disc is the equally exalted rendition of Beethoven's 7 Variations for Cello and Piano WoO 46 on 'Bei Männern' from Mozart's The Magic Flute, with Cortot providing sparkling accompaniment on this occasion to the great cellist Pablo Casals, a performance set down at Large Queen's Hall, London on 21 June 1927.
Included is the full-size, 6-page booklet – so often missing from copies in the COLH series – which is quite outstanding. In addition to extensive and authoritative notes by Emile Haraszti, there are striking archival photos and biographies of the artists – all texts in English only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the glossy laminated flipback jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgwear, particularly at corners, as well as some discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and quite attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is EXCELLENT. There is occasional light surface noise, though this is often owing to the 78rpm sources and transfers rather to the LP. In any case, playback remains quite fine. However, if you must have silent or NM surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
