This handsome and rare LP from La Voix de son Maitre · EMI 'Les Gravures Illustres' (COLH 92, French Pathé Marconi pressing, gray label, mono, “baguette”-style sturdy jacket, dowel spine) features Jacques Thibaud and Alfred Cortot's legendary account of Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major Op. 47 "Kreutzer", recorded at the Salle Chopin and the Salle Pleyel, Paris on 27 and 28 May 1929.

Filling out the disc is the equally exalted rendition of Beethoven's 7 Variations for Cello and Piano WoO 46 on 'Bei Männern' from Mozart's The Magic Flute, with Cortot providing sparkling accompaniment on this occasion to the great cellist Pablo Casals, a performance set down at Large Queen's Hall, London on 21 June 1927.

The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Jean Cotté, printed in French only.

PLEASE NOTE:

These La Voix de son Maitre “baguette” issues with the dowel spine are quite heavy – even with minimal packaging, prepared for shipping they weigh over 600 kg. This means that outside of Europe the cost for shipping is about $30 USD, and that is just for standard airmail. Certified airmail (with a tracking number) costs $33 USD. Those in doubt can visit the Spanish postal website (Correos.es), which is available in English. Although this listing states “free” shipping, it is not really free, of course. I have to pay for shipping like everyone else.

Anyway, all this to say that those who feel the price is high need to take the cost of shipping into account. If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to write and I will be happy to help. Thank you.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the  jacket is near-MINT. Though there is some mild discoloration, really this is a very fine copy. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and quite attractive – overall, a lovely collector's copy.

The condition of the dowel spine is EXCELLENT. There is minor edgewear and creasing, but the dowel remains perfectly solid and legible and there are no seamsplits, etc.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is occasional light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
