Description

First of all I am not sure why I don't have Jailbreak any more - I can only think it was one of the albums I gave to an ex's daughter who had bought a record player and was into 70's rock (along with Straight Shooter, Diamond Dogs and the Grand Illusion) However the rest of the first 8 are here. I started with Jailbreak and worked backwards Fighting - amazing, Nightlife - not bad, Vagabonds amazing then Johnny the Fox came out, then I bought Thin Lizzy and that was it. An incredible album, astonishing debut and introducing the genius of Phil Lynott to the world in a way only he could. That album remains in my best 10 ever and I still listen to it regularly. The songwriting is compelling as he draws you into a world with all his characters. Eire ? return of the Farmers song is a particular highlight.  Shades of a Blue Orphanage was a bit of a disappointment after that but then so would most albums have been I think. So they brought out Bad Reputation not long after Johnny the Fox and I got to see them live.  Hammersmith Odeon 10th December 1977 and opened with Soldier of Fortune.  Brilliant! So good that we raced to Southend to see them again the following Saturday. The last ever gig at the Kursaal as it turned out. In my opinion Phil Lynott is the greatest front man ever. Freddie was good but he wasn't Phil and apologies to Ian Anderson who is my lifelong hero.  Phil just had the edge for me.
