Description

Baron Elmo proudly offers you the chance to own a copy of the long unavailable BBC session lp from THIS HEAT: Made Available, a UK import recorded in 1977, released nearly two decades later by These Records, many years out of print in this format. This Heat was, hands down, one of the most innovative and amazing experimental rock bands EVER – fully deserving to be ranked among such luminaries as Faust, Amon Duul II, Can, Henry Cow, Wire, the Residents and Nurse with Wound. The astonishing trio of Charles Bullen (guitar, clarinet, viola, voice, tapes, etc.), Charles Hayward (percussion, keyboards, voice, tapes, etc.), and Gareth Williams (keyboards, guitar, bass, voice, tapes, etc.) utilized the recording studio as an instrument in its own right, laying down basic tracks, then using abrupt edits, tape speed manipulation, bizarre cross-fades, weird loops and more to create a bracing yet unsettling mix that explodes with ideas. Since these recordings were done live in the BBC, however, the studio reworking is kept to a minimum, making Made Available a sonic experience much closer to experiencing This Heat in concert – which, considering their reputation as a stellar live act back in the day, makes the lp doubly crucial. Equally valuable is the inclusion here of four tracks not found on either of their studio albums – including the incredible “Rimp Romp Ramp,” one of their all-time best. This Heat brings real intelligence and discipline to their music, resulting in mindblowing sonics, incisive lyrics and even the occasional hook. The Trouser Press Guide calls This Heat "austere, brilliant and indescribable," and Made Available embodies all those qualities plus some. If you are a fan of the bands listed above who cherishes high-quality vinyl, then this record should be considered a mandatory purchase. The copy in question is in beautiful, near-mint shape, both record and cover – it was acquired new by Baron Elmo and treated with tender loving care.

*****

One of our all time favorite bands, captured at their all time best for a 1977 BBC session. Krautrock-ish hyper rhythmic tape-looped prog. Absolutely brilliant and essential.
