Description

Collectors, here is a very special Edison Diamond Disc, #50509, circa 1917.  Thomas Edison makes a short speech about our boys over there called "Let Us Not Forget".  The flip side has the New York Military Band playing "National Airs of the Allies", including the French national anthem and The Star Spangled Banner.  The disc plays well, with moderate surface noise.
In the early 20th century, Thomas Edison was the most revered man in America.  There were requests for recordings of his voice, which he apparently dismissed as unnecessary and nonsense until America entered the world war.  For charity, he agreed to make a recording.  There is an announcer, then Edison gives about a 90 second speech.  This was also issued as a Blue Amberol.  Very hard to find today 100+ years later.  If this is what you like, my buy it now price is super reasonable, go for it!
