The Complete Blue Note Recordings of the Tina Brooks Quintets - 4 LP Set Mosaic MR4-106
Up for auction is a 4-LP box set of the recordings made by tenor saxophonist Harold Floyd "Tina" Brooks for the Blue Note label. Recording dates range from March 1958 through March 1961, and resulted in the Blue Note albums True Blue, Minor Move, and Back to the Tracks. Sidemen include Lee Morgan, Sonny Clark, Art Blakey, Paul Chambers, Art Taylor, Wilbur Ware, Freddie Hubbard, and Johnny Coles. Brooks was a very fine tenor player who seemed to have gotten lost in the plethora of fine players of that era. This music was too good to go unheard.
The reissue was released in the mid-1980's by the Connecticut-based reissue house, Mosaic. It's fair to say that this box set resurrected Brooks' reputation. The limited edition of 7500 copies has been sold out for years. This copy number 1158. I was the original buyer, and I have taken good care of it ever since. The LP's, box and booklet are in excellent condition.
