AN ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!! URIAH HEEP RELATED RARITY AND A FANTASTIC ALBUM TO BOOT!!!EXTREMELY SCARCE THESE DAYS ESP. IN THIS FABULOUS CONDITION!!!

                    Formed in June 1969, the band was fronted by former Rebel Rouser Cliff Bennett and, in the course of its two year, two album career, featured lead guitarist and keyboards Ken Hensley; bassist John Glascock (erroneously billed as John Konas on the album sleeve); drummer Lee Kerslake; and replacements (after the first album), Brian Glascock (drums); plus Alan Kendall (guitar).

The band was founded by Bennett, a former pop star, after the dissolution of the Cliff Bennett Band. He teamed with the former Gods keyboard player Hensley, who drafted in fellow ex-Gods members Kerslake and Glascock. The name was decided over dinner when Bennett and his manager attempted to create the most disgusting band name possible.

Toe Fat was contracted to the record label, Rare Earth, in the US. In the UK, the band signed with EMI, who released their first album on the Parlophone label, and the second on Regal Zonophone.

The eponymously titled first album flopped commercially, but gained considerable critical praise. Such was their stir that after their first single, "Workin' Nights", (the B-side was an early Elton John composition "Bad Side of the Moon") they were booked for a tour supporting Derek and the Dominos in the US. The album was also notable for its cover designed by the recently formed graphic art company Hipgnosis. The cover showed a beach scene with four people who have large toes superimposed over their heads. For the US release, a man and a topless woman in the background, were replaced by the image of a sheep.

Hensley quit the band to form Uriah Heep. Bennett admitted in the sleeve notes of his Rebellion album that when asked he "probably should have joined them". Kerslake left to join the National Head Band, before also joining Uriah Heep in 1971. Glascock later joined Jethro Tull. Another ex-Gods man, Brian Glascock, became the new drummer. Alan Kendall replaced Hensley, before their second album, Toe Fat Two.

Of course there are NO skips, jumps, clicks or sticks. Unbelievably as it may sound there is not hardly any  background noise at all. Impossible to find for this 1970 vinyl!!!  I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!!

Vinyl: EX++ to NM , a final upgrade. This is a seriously desirable album and very rare in this great condition!!! The replay is simply outstanding!!! The CD re-issue has nothing on this formidable recording!!! The heavy vinyl has a beautiful deep just as new pressed gloss. Under an intense light only a couple of wispy lies can be detected. In plain light this looks completely flawless. Astonishing replay with awesome channelling, this should be heard to be believed. This will sit fine in any quality prog collection. Of course NO skips, NO jumps and NO crackle.

Sleeve:  EX. Rarely seen like this!!!! This has the three flipbacks and a full gloss front cover. NO writing.  A couple of mini underlaminate creases near the spine. Even just new albums had this. Nice straight edges. See the pics.

Inner sleeve: The original iner sleeve is still present. It has a little sticker of the record company near the top ("Cowlings - Leicester")

This is a unique and serious investment opportunity esp. because of the Uriah Heep connection this is very sought after!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible, LEAVE ALONE IN THIS STUNNING EX++ CONDITION!!!

Labels are NM  with just one spindle trace to be seen.
