Description
Tony Jackson originally found fame as the lead singer with the group The Searchers but after leaving them in 1964 he then went on to release several records as Tony Jackson with The Vibrations. This record, Love Potion No.9 coupled with Fortune Teller on the B Side, proved to be his most successful release and is now a very sought after and hard to find record. Released on the PYE Records label this is the original release from 1965 with the push out centre, obviously still intact, where the 2nd pressing had a solid centre. The release/catalogue numbers are: 7N.15766 45.XX.1766-A / 45.XX.1766-B. The inner matrix reference numbers are: 45 XX 1766 A-1 for Side A and 45 XX 1766 B-1 for Side B.
The record itself is in excellent condition overall, given that it is now 50 years old, with a very clean showing surface. On Side A there is a scratch visible that is approx. 4mm long, at the outer edge of the record, that produces an audible dull click/pop when the record is played but thankfully this only lasts for the first few seconds and is then over. The rest of the record then plays perfectly OK with next to no pops & crackles audible as does Side B. In fact the record is in a lovely clean condition and it is only when you pivot it in bright light that a small number of very light/feint surface marks can be seen here and there but these are so light they in no way affect the playing of the record, only the scratch mark that I mentioned earlier can be heard. If I am being ultra critical there is the tiniest of nicks in the very outer edge of the record, even before the outer groove starts where you place the stylus, but this in no affects obviously the playing of the record. To summarise i think anybody looking to own a copy of this original record would struggle to find one in better condition. If they did manage to find one they would certainly have to pay more for it, more around the £60-£80 mark.
