Title: Tony & Tyrone – Please Operator b/w Apple of My Eye
Label/ Label #: Atlantic 2458
Country/ Year: USA/ 1967
Overall Condition of Record: EX (see below)
Description:
Rare 1967 Northern Soul on Atlantic. “Please Operator” is a powerful, storming Northern Soul dancer, while “Apple of My Eye” is more mid-paced but still a solid slice of Atlantic soul (great performance!). White label DJ promo copy.
Visually, both sides of this 45 come in at a EX, extremely clean with only a light mark or two to be found each side (maybe a couple more on the plug-side “Operator”). Soundwise, it is also a strong player (EX both sides), with the “Apple” side playing with no flaws and only a slight bit of crackle at the intro of the “Operator” side. Labels are very clean and without writing, with only a trace of ring wear beginning on the “Operator” side. A really nice 45! Comes in a generic white paper sleeve.
All records are original issues (no reissues or boots) unless noted…
All records are graded visually under strong light as well as play graded- which will often either kick the visual grade up or down a bit. I find that it is important to play grade as well as visual grade, as many old 45 pressings can play a lot better than they look, but there can also be important/ unseen pressing flaws on better looking records. My grading system is based upon both Goldmine grading standards as well as my own experience as a seller (and -more importantly- as a collector) of vintage vinyl. I would much rather down-grade my 45s (and have customers perhaps be pleasantly surprised), as I have often been on the other side of the transaction and know the importance of strict/conservative grading when ordering items “unseen” over the Internet.
Vinyl:
Near Mint (NM or M-) = as new; practically flawless
Excellent (EX or VG++) = 1 or 2 light marks/ flaws, but plays like NM
Very Good Plus (VG+) = a few light marks, but plays clean; perhaps minor pops and clicks, but not overpowering the music. No deep scratches. Obviously a record that was played but also one handled with care
Very Good (VG) = more wear w/ quite a lot of light marks/wear and less shiny. Perhaps one deeper (felt by the fingertip) scratch that doesn’t affect play. Surface noise, pops and clicks more evident, but still not overpowering music. Still plays relatively clean. Your average used record in desirable condition.
Very Good Minus (VG-) = Plays OK, but with still more flaws than on a VG rating, such as perhaps larger scratches. Substantial surface noise/ pops/ clicks could be more pronounced. Disc should, however, play through without skipping.
I never rate records above the NM grade because “Mint” conotates “Perfect,” and NOTHING is EVER completely perfect. On the other side of the scale, no records will be listed that have a grade of less than VG- unless they are extremely rare/desirable (and in which case they will be graded accordingly with flaws detailed…).
Buyer pays actual shipping cost by Danish mail (airmail). NOTE: US SHIPPING IS NOT, repeat NOT AVAILABLE @ $4.00 USD (this price was only listed due to inadaquate options on Ebay's automatic listing format.) Shipping cost for one 45 sent from Denmark to all locations within Europe is $6.00 ; for locations in the rest of the world (including USA), $8.00. We will gladly combine multiple wins together in order to save the customer on postage fees. Bidder should e-mail name and pertinent mailing info at the end of the auction to determine postage.
Insured/registered shipping is available by request at the price of $13 on top of the postage fee quoted above. Expensive, yes- but that’s the Danish postal system for you. PLEASE NOTE: I can not be held responsible for packages going missing through the mail unless you've asked to have them sent with this insured/registered shipping option. It is unlikely that this might happen (I have yet to have a package sent via Danish mail that has gone missing), although I guess there is still a chance that it could happen…
PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL ONLY! Any questions? Please contact before bidding! Payment MUST be received within 14 days from auction’s end. Thanks and good luck! Keep on the lookout for more rare 45, LP, vintage movie poster, and vintage comic book (plus much more!) auctions coming atcha from Electricita in the near future!
