I don’t know too much about this top rare item, but here’s some dug-up info:

In 1972 The Old Man & the Sea (TOMATS) released their selftitled album. It all started in 1968, when Benny Stanley, Tommy Hansen and Knud Lindhard met each other. They realised that they were into the same progressive beat music and it didn’t take long before the band “The Old Man & the Sea” was born. Shortly thereafter, drummer Lars “Bikse” Thygesen joined the band and the band began rehearsals of different cover versions of songs, originally performed by CREAM, PROCOL HARUM, THE NICE and others, but all kept in TOMATS´ own interpretations. Soon TOMATS was doing several gigs with other bands. Amongst others, the danish band “YOUNG FLOWERS” was so enthusiastic about the band, that a contact to the chairman at Brøndby Popklub, Hans Otto Bisgaard, was established. (Brøndby Popklub was the leading danish popvenue in these years, and Hans Otto Bisgaard is nowadays known as a pioneer in the promotion of rock music in Denmark). He made it possible; TOMATS became the supporting act at the very first Led Zeppelin concert in Denmark, performed at nothing less than Brøndby Popklub. During the preparations for the Led Zeppelin gig, the band agreed that they needed a lead singer. Benny Stanley, who had previously played with Robert Hausehildt, suggested to give Robert the chance. He was accepted by the band, and the concert together with Led Zeppelin was such a success, that TOMATS came back to the same club shortly after, this time as the supporting act for Jetho Tull. Now everything just speeding up and TOMATS began to write their own songs. They also created their own sound, which was extended with a big psycadellic lightshow, all in all bringing the performances to the highest level. At that time there was already a high demand for TOMATS, and the band went on a norwegian tour. When the tour in Norway ended, the singer Robert and the drummer Bikse split up and went their own musical ways. The following years was used on a serious personal revision for each of the band members, so when they met again, they acted as one group of unity, wishing to create new music in a new style which was 100% their own. In 1971, TOMATS found their final line-up; enter vocalist Ole Wedel and drummer John Lundvig. One of the reasons why TOMATS was able to contribute to the renewal that the Danish rock scene was missing at that time, was to be found in the fact that the sources of inspiration was very different, compared to those of the Copenhagen based bands, who seemed to be stuck. In spring 1972 TOMATS was recording their one and only studio album. It was produced by Freddy Hanson and released by SONET records. Performers on the record were: Ole Wedel Petersen; lead vocals. Knud Lindhard; bass and vocals. Benny Stanley; guitar. John Lundvig; drums and Tommy Hansen; organ and vocals. TOMATS was hailed by the entire press, and the success was followed up by touring all over Denmark. Although the bass player Knud Lindhard left the band, to establis a solo career, the band continued with several new bass players. Erik Falk stayed longest. They performed several big concerts with famous names like ARTHUR BROWN, TEN YEARS AFTER, GASOLIN and GNAGS, reaching the absolute climax at the ROSKILDE FESTIVAL in 1973 and 74. In 1973 The Old Man & the Sea was honored ”THE BEST PERFORMING ACT” at the festival at all. Just after Roskilde 73 Erik "Dolle" Hansen joined as a bass player and Lasse "Las" Laursen joined as 2. guitarist. In autumn 1974 TOMATS split up. 15 years later they performed 2 concerts in 1990 and 1991 in their hometown of Horsens. Unfortunately, these were the only two concerts. Listen to this, and you maybe realize why the music of this band has survived the last 30 years. It’s true cult music at its best, based in vocals, sonic guitar, fulfilled by rhythm and lifegiving soundscapes./The band sounds to have a strong Uriah Heep influence./The Old Man & The Sea is here better than ever. This is symphonic rock from Denmark in its best form.
