This is a an extremely rare picture sleeve 45 by The Tornadoes: "Moon Dawg" b/w "The Tornado" (Vedette Records - VRN 34027). Released in Italy in 1964. Comes in beautiful color picture sleeve. Features a song not available in the U.S. in small format: "The Tornado" written by Dave Aerni, co-founder of Aertaun Records. This is the label The Tornadoes released their singles: "Bustin' Surfboards"/"Beyond the Surf" (Aertaun 100), "The Gremmie, Part I"/"The Gremmie, Part II" (Aertaun 101), "The Inebriated Surfer"/"Moon Dawg" (Aertaun 102), and "The Phantom Surfer"/"Shootin' Beavers" (Aertaun 103--later reissued with the less offensive B-side title, "Lightnin'"). Both songs come from the "Bustin' Surfboards" LP, released on Josie Records.
"Moon Dawg" was written by Derry Weaver (listed on the label as Dairy Weaver), and was first recorded by The Gamblers (featuring the brilliant bassist Larry Taylor, future member of the Mothers of Invention Elliot Ingbar, and future member of the Beach Boys Bruce Johnston). The version recorded by The Tornadoes was engineered by Frank Zappa, as was the B side of this single, "The Tornado," at Pal Studios in 1963. Produced by Paul Buff.
