It was to be the very first recording ever captured at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. And so, to ensure that the moment would indeed be momentous, Eugene Ormandy invited one of the world’s finest maestros to helm the orchestra, Arturo Toscanini.
This is that momentous release, Toscanini in full command of the Schubert, Rca calling in the Soria family to package the historic recording.
The very special booklet, in fact, provides a wonderful essay about Schubert’s times, along with a perspective as to the happenings and travails of the rehearsals and the recording of the piece.
A grand affair, here in a cloth-covered box without fault, book inside is perfect, heavy-platter record should play near mint.

Shipping and handling is $4 for a single LP shipped within the States; $1 for each additional LP. Internationally, $18.60 via airmail for the first LP, $4 each thereafter. (Canada is $11.95; $3 each additional.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
