Description
Hi! You are bidding on The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, a 1972 album by the great Texas folksinger/songwriter Townes Van Zandt. The album was released by Poppy Records, catalog number PP-LA004-F. It is in a gatefold sleeve. The album is in very good plus condition, with no scratches or skips, and one very light pop on "Heavenly Houseboat Blues." There are no visible markings on the vinyl, and almost imperceptible surface noise between tracks.
The jacket, on the other hand, is in "good" condition. There are light yellow/brown stains at the bottom of the front and back; a small dent of about 1/4 inch on the bottom edge of the front; and the price sticker is at the top of the front. There is a triangular "cutout" cut across the top edge.
The original "From Poppy With Love" inner liner has seam splits on two edges.
I don't know which version of the album this is. The publishers on the labels are separated by hyphens; Townes' most well known song, "Pancho and Lefty," is misspelled "Poncho and Lefty" on the record, and "Pauncho and Lefty" on the jacket: UAR (United Artists Records) is on the lower front of the jacket; Poppy, with no catalog number, is on the lower front of the cover.
Townes Van Zandt was quite possibly the greatest American songwriter of the latter part of the 20th. century. Little known or appreciated by mainstream Country music, his songs found a loving home in the hands of people like Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, and anyone who appreciated excellent songwriting.
