LP a copertina non apribile. Rara stampa, appartenente alla serie “Rock Greatest 1500”, con inserto di 2 pagine, riportante i testi in inglese e note biografiche in giapponese. Obi a colori, riportante il prezzo di yen 1.500.

I Traffic sono stati un gruppo musicale rock britannico, i cui membri erano tutti originari delle West Midlands, regione inglese contenente la seconda città piu' popolata dell' Inghilterra, Birmingham. Il gruppo fu formato nell' aprile del 1967 da Steve Winwood (Birmingham, 12 Maggio 1948) dopo che aveva lasciato The Spencer Davis Group, con Jim Capaldi (Evesham, Worcestershire, il 24 Agosto 1944), Chris Wood (Birmingham, 24 Giugno 1944) e Dave Mason (Worcester, 10 maggio 1946) cominciando come psychedelic rock band intorno all' area di Birmingham. I primi brani ( Tra cui "Paper Sun", "Hole in My Shoe", and "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush") furono influenzati dai Beatles, attraverso l' uso di strumenti come il Mellotron e l ' harpsichord ( clavicembalo elettrico ), il sitar e svariati altri strumenti etnici, incorporando anche l' improvvisazione del jazz nella loro musica. Dopo essersi separati nel 1969, quando Steve Winwood si unì ai Blind Faith, si riunirono poi nel 1970 per realizzare l' album forse piu' rappresentativo della band, John Barleycorn Must Die. Il gruppo, seppure variando il genere musicale da cui erano partiti, rimase attivo fino alla metà degli anni settanta, per poi sciogliersi nel 1975, ma si riunì ancora per un breve periodo con Winwood e Capaldi nel 1994. Gruppo impostato alla creatività, per quanto estremamente disciplinata, centrato sul genio compositivo ed interpretativo di Steve Winwood (classe 1948, già stella dello Spencer Davis Group, particolarmente famoso per l'hit mondiale Gimme Some Lovin'), e su uno stile originale basato sul progressive-rock, il folk e alcuni aspetti estetici propri del jazz. Uno dei loro album più rappresentativi è John Barleycorn Must Die (1970) dove, oltre alla title-track, versione di un canto di origine celtica, spiccano lo strumentale Glad ed il funkeggiante soul Empty Pages. Altri brani emblematici della ricerca stilistica e sonora del gruppo sono Dear Mr. Fantasy (1967) e 40.000 Headmen (1968). Un'altra loro composizione, No Face, No Name, No Number, tratta dal loro primo long playing Mr. Fantasy (1967) venne all'epoca riproposta in Italia col titolo di Un anno dall'Equipe 84. Durante la temporanea debacle della band, a cavallo tra i sessanta e i settanta, Winwood si aggregherà a Eric Clapton e Ginger Baker (ex-Cream) e Ric Grech (ex-Family) nel supergruppo Blind Faith con all'attivo un unico, omonimo album (1969). Dopo la pubblicazione di When the Eagle Flies (1974) i Traffic si sciolgono, fino a che, nel 1994 viene pubblicato il nuovo lavoro Far from Home, dedicato a Chris Wood, scomparso undici anni prima, ed intrapreso un breve tour. Un decennio dopo, nel 2004, i Traffic vengono inseriti nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ma, di lì a poco, viene a mancare Jim Capaldi, nel gennaio 2005. Nel novembre dello stesso anno esce il doppio live The Last Great Traffic Jam (il titolo sfrutta un gioco di parole inglese: 'traffic jam' significa 'ingorgo automobilistico') che contiene brani dal tour del 1994.

Mr. Fantasy è l'album di debutto del gruppo musicale inglese dei Traffic, uscito nell'anno 1967. Alla registrazione parteciparono Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood, Chris Wood e Dave Mason; tuttavia quest'ultimo lascia la band prima della pubblicazione. Il sitar, ampiamente caratterizzante questo periodo dei Traffic viene usato nel singolo Paper Sun e in Utterly Simple. La prima versione statunitense dell'album prodotta per la United Artists Records era intitolata Heaven Is In Your Mind nella cui copertina apparivano tutti i membri del gruppo, eccetto Dave Mason. Il titolo venne rapidamente mutato in Mr. Fantasy, ma la nuova copertina rimase fino a che la Island Records non venne a ripubblicare la versione britannica verso la fine degli anni '70. Sia quella statunitense che quella britannica vennero rilasciate con diversi missaggi stereo e mono. In particolare, una canzone, Giving to You, uscì in tre versioni differenti, con le diverse versioni di mixaggio mono e stereo rispetto a quella inglese, oltre al fatto che il lato B della versione britannica successivamente verrà incluso nell'LP mono statunitense. In particolare il lato B comprende testi cantati da Winwood nell'introduzione non presenti in nessun altra versione. La colonna sonora del film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush contiene una registrazione di Utterly Simple diversa da quella dell'album. Nella maggior parte delle canzoni della versione originale statunitense viene aggiunta una piccola sequenza del singolo Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush. Questo LP, d'altra parte, contiene tre canzoni tratte dai singoli britannici (Paper Sun, Hole In My Shoe e Smiling Phases), con la cancellazione di due di Dave Mason: Hope I Never Find Me There e Utterly Simple. Il brano finale nell'album statunitense, We're A Fade, You Missed This, è in effetti il finale della versione per intero di Paper Sun. Il Rolling Stone diede una recensione più che positiva alla distribuzione statunitense, definendola "un album che, sebbene necessitasse di unitarietà (ottenibile facilmente con il tempo), è uno dei migliori prodotti dai gruppi contemporanei". La recensione rimase famosa per il fatto che conteneva molti errori grossolani, come quello di asserire che Chris Wood fosse il bassista dei Traffic e che quella di Dave Mason fosse la voce solista incisa in Paper Sun.

The Traffic were a British rock band, whose members were all from the West Midlands area of ??England's second city containing more 'populated of' England, Birmingham. Mr. Fantasy is the debut album of the English band Traffic, released in the year 1967. "They were so praised the vocal qualities of Steve Winwood ("probably the best blues voice of his generation") and lyrics by Jim Capaldi. Arguing that "the strong points of this album are where the elements of the unusual style of Traffic and the rock-blues of Winwood are properly combined," and in any case the contributions of Mason are judged good enough by itself. The review was famous for the fact that it contained many blunders, such as the claim that Chris Wood was the bassist of Traffic and the Dave Mason was the lead singer engraved in Paper Sun.
