Description

This is the original UK pressing on the Pink Island Bull's eye label (ILPS 9088). This is the first UK pressing, omits the MADE IN ENGLAND scripts on the label that the 2nd pressing has. The laminated sleeve is in excellent(-) condition (split seam) and the record is in excellent condition.

During the prime-time of british "white boy" blues boom in 1968, all labels had to have a blues band under their wings. Chris Blackwell made no exception by releasing and producing Tramline's debut LP on his Pink Island label. The most famous figure is 17-18 years old Mick Moody holding the guitar (Juicy Lucy, Snafu, Whitesnake) and does it very well indeed. The album is surprisingly strong, the drum saturated Mazurka being a bit out of place. The other members have remained a mystery to me ; John McCoy sings and plays harmonica, Terry Sidgwick plays bass and Terry Popple plays the drums. The only thing I know about the rest is that Terry Popple joined later with a Australian progressive rock band. In my opinion, Tramline's Somewhere Down The Line has always been one of the most satisying Brit Blues records due to it's own arrangements of standard blues tunes.

Their first album was advertised in this fatherly manner by ISLAND in "The Record Buyer", Febr. '69:
"This group make a bit of a change. Most blues groups seem to be from London these days, but these four lads are all from the North East. Very strong debut album this. It is hard, uncompromising blues, played with great feeling and dedication. This was the boys' first experience of a recording studio, and a very good job they have made of it. "National Blues" is nice and so too is the excellent version of "Killing Floor"."
