Description

33 1/3 RPM 16" transcription LP from 1946 - Moon River - Produced by WLW, Cincinnati for Tucker Wayne, Atlanta - red vinyl.

Moon River was a long running late night radio program broadcast out of WLW in Cincinnati.  The program ran from 1930 into the 1970s. It broadcast late at night prior to the station sign-off and played slow, melodic organ music with poetry recitation and background vocals by the DeVore Sisters and sponsored by the Southern Cross and Red Cross Mattress and Spring C (with their commercial near the end of the broadcast).

These two programs are from 1946.  Information on one side in the runoff area that can be read include - Moon River MR 37 10092 9-28-46 IBEW Local 1224.  This is an inside start record.

Moon River Program 37 On The Sea / Program 38 Thou Art Not Fair can be found at the Internet Archive:   https://archive.org/details/WhenYouFeelAYawnComingOn/MoonRiver-40_37OnTheSea.mp3

This is a 16 1/4" record, just a bit too big to play on my 16" capable phonograph.  So I cannot preview the record.  It has some light scuffs and scratches plus a couple that I do not visually trust not to skip.  I should play just fine, but I cannot prove it.  Because of the questionable spots, the record rates G+ to E, vibrant label, clean record.

This was specifically recorded for the Moon River program and is very difficult to find.

From https://diginole.lib.fsu.edu/islandora/object/fsu:182230/datastream/PDF/view :  The announcers during the show’s twenty-five year run included Peter Grant, Harry Holcomb, Palmer Ward, Charles Woods, Don Dowd, Jay Jostyn, Jimmy Leonard, and Ken Linn.  It featured such singers as The DeVore Sisters, Rosemary and Betty Clooney, Doris Day, Janette Davis, Lucille Norman, Anita Ellis, Ruby Wright, and Phil Brito.  Among the organists were Pat Gillick, Fats Waller, and Lee Erwin.

please see labels.

My grading scale is not complicated.  Mint (M, M-) means like new with only the slightest of scuffing.  Excellent (E, E+, E-) means minor scuffs, scrapes, label wear, light scratches that do not affect the play.  Good (G, G+, G-) means scuffing, scraping, scratches, acceptable playing with noticible noise.  I try not to sell records that are warped or that skip unless noted.  These are records I have picked up while expanding my own record collection.
