Description

Up for auction is a rather rare near mint 1986 test pressing of the Canadian new wave band Trans-x's 1983 worldwide smash single 'Living on Video'.
Talk about a song way ahead of its time! This 7" single, which features two different versions from the original release (which clocked in at 4:20), was released when record labels (and bands) were trying to capitalize on shortened radio edits and extended remixes of hit songs for the dance club scene.

  • Side A features the shortened "Vocal / Edit" [3:48].
  • Side B features the longer "Vocal / Remix version" [5:32].
The title, artist, timing, matrix #, and label # of the test pressing are all handwritten (see photos). The dates are stamped, both appearing on side A (see photos): April 16, 1986 and April 22, 1986.
This test pressing was one of the first pressed by Specialty Records for Atlantic Records for the soon-to-be-released 1986 7" single released under the Atco/Mirage subsidiary labels [Atco 7-99534]. For verification, you can see the 7-99534 record # on side A of the test pressing, which was the exact # used for the Atco single.
The matrix # also corresponds with the Atco single [ST-86C-49528/49529-1] and also appears in the deadwax of the test pressing.
In addition to the matrix # on side A, the words "Atlantic Studios DK" (no photo, sorry) are stamped into the deadwax. The Specialty Records Corporation symbol (an "R" and "C" within a large stylish "S") are etched into both sides of the vinyl.
