Ultra rare lp of gorgeous experimental microtonal music composed in the 31-notes-to-the-octave system devised by 20th century Dutch physicist and composer Adriaan Daniel Fokker (a pupil of Albert Einstein, influenced by the music theory of 17th-century Dutch physicist Christiaan Huygens). Features a performance of Badings' 2nd Sonata by violin microtonality experts Bouw Lemkes and Jeanne Vos, and Anner Bijlsma playing cello on the Ridout piece. This was privately issued by Washington University in ridiculously small numbers and is a highly recommended gem of avant garde music.

Badings was a geologist and composer who studied under Willem Pijper and worked with Dick Raaijmakers and Tom Dissevelt at the Philips electronic music studio in Eindhoven (which he founded); he experimented with microtonal scales and was among the very first electronic music pioneers during the 1950s and 60s along with Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Herbert Eimert, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Vladimir Ussachevsky. • Kox and Ridout were both students of Badings. • This recording continues the modern microtonal music tradition of Ivan Wyschnegradsky, Harry Partch, Alois Haba, Ferruccio Busoni, Lou Harrison, La Monte Young, Ben Johnston, Glenn Branca, Terry Riley, Charles Ives, John Eaton, James Tenney, Easley Blackwood, Emil Richards, Teo Macero, Tony Conrad, Rhys Chatham, Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Lucier, Joe Maneri, Julian Carrillo, etc. Check out my other items for more early electronic/synth/concrete/electroacoustic, avant garde/experimental/noise, free jazz/improv, psych, sound art, soundtracks, audiophile, and 20th century classical vinyl. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings.
