I am not a collector or an expert but the background of this record would make this a real treasure for someone in the music industry or just for someone who enjoys collecting rare things.
This record is the FIRST PRESSING that was made of Troy Shondell’s eventual hit song.
The LABEL has a TYPO on it. Goldcrest is MISSPELLED “GOLDCREAST”.
Also UNIQUE on this label is Troy Shondell’s HOME ADDRESS at that time.
Troy Shondell was born Gary Wayne Shelton and was living in Wayne Indiana when he FIRST RECORDED his eventual hit “This Time” in April 1961. The song was RELEASED in June of that year. The song was then quickly picked up by LIBERTY whose name is reflected on all the labels from that point on. The song sky rocketed to the top 10 on the Billboard charts and remained on the chart for 13 weeks.
This is one of a the ORIGINALS of a SMALL NUMBER of records made under the Goldcrest label in the song’s infancy.
(Once the record was picked up by Liberty it went into large scale production and sold over 10,000 records in just the first 6 weeks).What an exciting snapshot of history to own! Please see photos for condition.
