Description
Original mono copy of Tubbs, the 1961 British jazz classic released by the extraordinary Tubby Hayes, who plays both tenor sax and vibraphone.
A unique album and the first time a modern British jazzman was given free rein to record what he liked with the musicians he wanted, according to Benny Green's sleeve notes.
Among the top musicians featured are trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar, pianist Terry Shannon, trombonist Don Lusher, trumpeter Bobby Pratt and bass player Jeff Clyne.
The heavyweight front laminated flipback sleeve is in excellent shape which just a tiny bit of corner wear and a couple of minor marks on the back cover – very rare to find such a great sleeve.
The vinyl has plenty of hairlines and marks (see photo), but no feelable scratches. It plays through really powerfully – the odd tic here and there and a little surface noise between tracks, but nothing that detracts from the music and audio-wise it easily grades VG++, thanks to the deep Fontana grooves.
If you're particularly bothered about the visual appearance of the vinyl, this may not be one for you. To me, it's the music that matters most, and on that score I'm confident you'll be more than happy with this.
Excellent labels. Original white inner sleeve.
A must have for jazz collectors, and a rare find!
