Collector Notes
No Heavy Petting is the Michael Schenker album — he was 21 years old when it was recorded, already three albums deep with UFO, and this is where his guitar work stopped being impressive and started being legendary. Collectors specifically chase original US vinyl of this title because the analog transfer from Morgan Studios captures the clarity and bite of Schenker's playing in a way digital reissues consistently fail to replicate.
The cover was designed by Hipgnosis — the same studio behind Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy, and dozens of other iconic sleeves. A Hipgnosis cover is a collector artifact in its own right. Produced by Leo Lyons, bassist of Ten Years After, whose blues-rock background gave UFO's hard rock more dynamic range than their peers.
This copy is the Capitol Records Terre Haute, Indiana pressing, identifiable by "T1" in the deadwax (CHR-1103-B-T1). Original 1976 US yellow Chrysalis butterfly label. Schenker departed UFO after the Strangers in the Night tour in 1978 to form the Michael Schenker Group (MSG) — making No Heavy Petting one of his final studio recordings with the band.
