UGLY DUCKLINGS “Somewhere Outside” rare original!!

1966/Cdn/Yorktown YT50.001....here’s an original white label first pressing of this top notch garage/punk lp. The cover is in clean condition but does have a couple of issues with the back and seams, the top seam has a 2” seam split at the opening, it appears the top seam has been touched up with black marker, the bottom seam has a 2” seam split at the opening and the paper is cracked on the seam, there are 2 very small horizontal tears on the front just as the blue starts on the opening edge, there is light vertical creasing between the tears, otherwise the front is clean and sharp, the back however has a tear on the opening edge under the picture of Robin Boers, it would be approx 1” square missing, there are also a couple fo small dings underneath, otherwise the back has just a bit of storage wear and looks clean. The vinyl is in VG+ condition, there are several light minor scuffs/scratches and a few very small feeler scratches that are mainly inaudible due to the loud production of the music, no loud or continuous noise causing any displeasure, the record plays with good mono fidelity, punchy and loud and with only slight noise/soft ticks that doesn't ever last long, one of the best garage/punk lp’s ever made! A respectable original play copy of this rare Canadian gem! Please check my other auctions for more psych rock and various lp's, good luck and thanks for looking!

Formed in the spring of 1965 as The Strolling Bones, a blatant Rolling Stones-inspired outfit featuring Brian Jones look-a-like, British-born Glyn Bell. After making its live debut at Cedarbrae High School in Toronto's Scarborough district (the entire band minus Boers studied there), the group changed name to The Ugly Ducklings and won a residency at Charlie Brown's Place. In late 1965, the band attracted the attention of Yorktown Records, who recorded the group's debut single, the Bingham-Mayne collaboration, Nothin' for a mere $300 on a 2-track machine at Hallmark Studios. The record was picked by local radio and became a local smash in March of the following year. On the back of the single's success, the 'Ducks landed their dream gig - opening for the Stones at Maple Leaf Gardens in June 1966. The group's debut album Somewhere Outside, recorded in New York and Toronto was issued around this time and contained all of the group's early singles. The opening cut, Nothin', was also their finest moment, with its snotty punk vocals and guitar assault. She Ain't No Use To Me was a punk shouter with some snappy guitar work, whilst That's Just A Thought I Had In My Mind is more restrained, veering more towards pop. Also of note on the album were Do What You Want, a mid-paced beat number; Just In Case You Wonder, which featured some good fuzz guitar; Hey Mama (Keep Your Big Mouth Shut), notable for some fine psychedelic guitar work; a snotty version of Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Any More, the only non-original and the closing cut, Windy City (Noise At The North End), an atmospheric instrumental complete with sound effects and more fuzz guitar. MINT: as stated with no defects

NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean

EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much

VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
