Description

UK ORIOLE-THE DONAYS-DEVIL IN HIS HEART -EX
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY – IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE YOU SEE ONE OF THESE AGAIN IN THIS CONDITION.
This was one of many records owned and cherished by my late father, I have commenced the sale of his masterpiece collection. He attended UCL
London from 1968-1974 and was an able gifted man studying maths and computer science. He also ran the societies club and arranged gigs etc. He
recently sung and performed acoustic guitar alongside Julie Felix of folk acclaim before sadly passing too soon. See below associated links.
The records you will see for sale over the coming months will be folk and prog rock and indeed motown masterpieces from the golden era. e.g.
floyd, john morgan, pentangle, fairport, rolling stones, beefheart, hendrix etc etc...reaaly an incredible selection from an avid collector
spanning many decades.

you are bidding on....UK ORIOLE CBA 1770 THE DONAYS-DEVIL IN HIS HEART / BAD BOY RECORD CONDITION - EX LABEL CONDITIONS - ONLY FAINT MARKINGS SEE PICS- EX 7" 45rpm
1962 - rare as hen's teeth single. Covered by the Beatles!!!
The Donays, featuring lead vocalist Yvonne Allen (aka Yvonne Vernee) recorded a two sided single in 1961 titled "Devil In His Heart b/w Bad Boy." The song did not stir much interest in the record buying public, and the group split up soon afterward.
The Donays soon found themselves back in the spotlight when the Beatles cut the top-side of their sole single for their album. "Devil In Her Heart," as it was now called, gained a wide audience as the Beatles soon became house-hold names.
The Beatles somehow found it and covered it (on their second album, 1963's With the Beatles), with George Harrison on lead vocals.
How it made its way across the ocean and into the hands of the Beatles is a mystery; perhaps George Harrison was the one who found it, as he sang lead. The Beatles changed the title to "Devil in Her Heart," and transformed it into a pounding rocker with great call-response backup vocals and imaginative guitar flourishes. While their version is superior, it doesn't diminish the class of the Donays' original, which had a slightly slower tempo, strong harmonies, and more soul-pop-oriented production.
