Description
RCA Victrola Stereo VICS 1206, first grooved maroon label disc, pressed in England by Decca. Stampers are 1K 1K. Laminated jacket. Recorded in Paris by Decca, issued in the US as LSC 2400. Extraordinarily rare in its first UK issue, SB 2094. See my note about that below.
"Ballet Music from the Opera" with Anatole Fistoulari and the Paris Conservatory Orchestra. Ballet music from Aida, Samson and Delilah, William Tell, and Khovantchina.
One of the great Living Stereo issues, maybe my favorite. Not to be missed, simply stunning sound, and great performances.
Disc NM, jacket VG++
Note: If you want a Decca mastering of this great recording, this is the one to get. After many years, I finally had a chance to obtain a copy of SB 2094, and I found it very disappointing, seriously lacking in dynamics and bottom end weight. This issue has all of the weight in the bass that it should, and sounds terrific. I certainly don't know for sure, but this may explain why it was that not very many copies of SB 2094 were pressed.
