A meeting of minds between two luminaries of the London indie demi-monde - Mazes' Jack Cooper and Veronica Falls' James Hoare - Ultimate Painting are in truth more restrained and laidback than either of their main concerns, and their easy charm belies the nature of a band that knows exactly how to cast its particular spell. 'Green Lanes' is a carefree breeze of a record, a collection of homespun and winsome ditties replete with exquisite harmonies and melodic nous that nods to the self-titled Velvet Underground album, Pavement and Syd Barrett whilst transporting the aspect of a long hot summer in the late-'60s or early-'70s forty-five years into the future.
