VERY RARE RECORD, NOT RELEASED, ONLY SENT OUT AS PROMO
This is the very rare self titled 1973 pop album by former Warhol Superstar Ultra Violet (aka the French artist and author Isabelle Dufresne). "The record was a personal drama in my life. Although it was printed, it was never distributed", Dufresne admits in Paul Maréchal's catalogue raisonné 'Andy Warhol - The record covers'. She was asked to make a record after a guy from Capital records had heard her sing in a bar. "At the first recording session the producer asked: what happened to your voice? I told him I had taken singing lessons for this record, to which he answered that I shouldn't have, that my voice was better before..."
The record is of course famous and sought after for its cover art, credited to Ultra Violet at the Andy Warhol Studio. As it happens this week (9-14 February) The Warhol in Pittsburgh has this interesting film from The Factory Diaries on its program:
• Ultra Violet Album Cover Design Session, August 23, 1973 33 min.(Program to be found here: ) It shows Warhol taking some Polaroids of Ultra Violet. A few in profile with her legendary long tongue sticking out, but these were not used. The picture actually used on the cover is made in 1967 by Lee Kraft. Warhol also made a dozen Polaroids of UV with an apple in her mouth. One of those is on the back cover. The film shows UV and Warhol did not agree which one was the best, eventually it was Andy's choice that made it to the cover. Although the tongue photo was not Warhol's, it was of important influence a few years later later on his Love You Live cover (Rolling Stones).
we graded this very carefully but this being such a high dollar item please examine the photos!!
