RARE 1920s HMV 78 RPM “Ten Little .... Boys” / “The Jazzing ....” – UNCLE CHARLIE
Extremely rare original 1920s 78rpm record from the His Master's Voice label (Cat. No. AS 4), featuring two controversial yet historically significant performances by Uncle Charlie
Release Date: Circa 1923
Format: 7" 78 RPM Shellac
Label: His Master’s Voice (HMV), The Gramophone Co. Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, England
Matrix No.: I-2004
- Record: Overall in excellent-minus condition by VJM standards. The "Jazzing..." side has one short needle dig, resulting in a few audible clicks for a brief moment. Aside from that, both sides play very well with minimal surface noise, typical for shellac pressings from this era. Few marks here and there. Remarkably clean sound for a 101-year-old recording.
- Label: Clean and intact with light wear, visible handwritten markings, and original copyright stamp present. (See photos for details.)
- Playback: Fully playable and enjoyable.
Why This Record Is Special
- Exceptionally rare: This item is seldom seen on the market. The last known copy sold five years ago in August 2020 for £310.03 GBP (see ValueYourMusic / Popsike).
- Historic significance: While the lyrics and titles reflect outdated and offensive racial stereotypes from the era, the record stands as a reminder of the past and is studied for its historical context. It is not being sold to promote any discriminatory views.
