Description
This is the famous and very hard to find UNDERDOG 7 inch, released in 1986 on New Beginning Records. Of all the records I've sold so far, this is the one I'm gonna have the most trouble parting with. In fact, I can hardly believe I'm selling it. I would've loved this band no matter what just 'cause I just liked their name. Underdog was my absolute favorite cartoon when I was a little kid, so I liked them before I even heard a single note. Turns out, they were actually pretty great. When I got into record collecting, the Underdog 7 inch was something that gave you status. You could have the crappiest record collection in the world (see my other auctions) but if you owned the Underdog 7 inch, people had to take you more seriously. People suddenly got a little nicer to you (in the hopes that you'd dub them a copy). Doors are held open on approach. With a glance and a nod, bouncers everywhere just unhook the velvet rope. In the scheme of mid eighties New York City Hardcore, the underdog 7 inch reigns supreme. Check out the insert.... no big white shoes anywhere. There's a shot of Richie singing and he's rocking some high top Vans. Skate shoes. The drawings on the cover and on the record label feature cartoon fellas in Creepers. At last! Actual punk shoes on a record I'm selling! Now that's what I'm talking about. This was hardcore that came out of punk rock, back when the two things were linked - before all the sports wear and kids crying on stage in emo-land. Like I already said, I'm gonna be sad to see this one go.... and then I'm gonna turn into one of those people who USED to own the Underdog 7 but doesn't anymore. One of those EX-record collectors. No more status. Like all those people out there who USED to own Minor Threat's Filler 7 inch but for some strange reason sold it. I never understood those people. Now look at me... I'm becoming one (although you don't see me giving up my Teen Idles 7 inch). As always, buyer pays for shipping and MUST contact me to arrange and agree to the shipping fees. In the U.S. I’ll ship as Media Mail or Priority Mail. Foreign orders will be shipped via Airmail. PayPal only. Thanks and good luck.
