MEGA-RARE, long-deleted, original 2007 1st UK-pressed strictly limited edition 14-track double vinyl LP set from the production collective that defies definition with its blend of electronic, hip-hop, dance and rock music, including the single 'Burn My Shadow' and featuring collaborations with Josh Homme [Queens of the Stone Age], Ian Astbury [The Cult], 3D [Massive Attack], The Duke Spirit, Autolux and Gavin Clark [Clayhill], housed in a gatefold picture sleeve

This 2-LP set remains sealed from new in the original manufactur's shrink wrap with the rare cover sticker still attached over shrink on front cover, and therefore mint & unplayed!. The shrink wrap is still intact with no tears and the cover is in excellent condition with no bent corners, gouges or other flaws. An absolutely pristine copy. War Stories is the third album from Unkle. It was recorded in the Joshua Tree desert outside Los Angeles, CA at the Rancho de la Luna studio (home to The Desert Sessions recordings from the likes of PJ Harvey, Nick Oliveri, Josh Freese and many others) and in London at James Lavelle’s new Surrender Sounds studio. The album comprises of fourteen tracks of epic proportions.

Often criticized for relying on famous guests to complete his albums, James Lavelle of UNKLE has once again gathered together several of his distinguished musician friends for the group’s third LP War Stories. Along with James’ studio partner Richard File, half of the 14 tracks feature other artists, including Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Gavin Clark (Clayhill), Ian Astbury (The Cult), The Duke Spirit, Autolux and 3D (Massive Attack) with co-production by Chris Gross (QOTSA).

The album was released in Japan on 20 June 2007 Europe and the UK on 9 July 2007, followed by a 24 July release date in North America. War Stories debuted at #58 in Australia. The album was promoted by three singles: "Burn My Shadow", "Hold My Hand" and "Restless". The video for "Burn my Shadow" featured the actor Goran Višnjic.

The cover art was designed by 3D of Massive Attack.

The track "Chemistry" is used as the instrumental track for "Hello/Goodbye (Uncool)" by Lupe Fiasco from his 2007 album Lupe Fiasco's The Cool. Lupe Fiasco chose War Stories as his #1 album of the year as posted to a video on Myspace.

The song "Burn My Shadow" was used during the climax of the movie Repo Men. It was also featured in an Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood trailer and the trailer for the 2009 video game Fuel.

Reviews of the album were generally favorable. Notably, the tracks "Burn My Shadow" and "When Things Explode" (which are thematically similar and feature the vocals of Ian Astbury) received nearly universal praise.

Review

"War Stories is the most unadventurous, most typically rock UNKLE release to date. With drums turned down and layers upon layers of fuzzy guitars and nonsensical hippie-isms turned up, it comes off like a castrated version of Primal Scream's searing XTRMNTR. Much of the new direction can be attributed to the addition of desert rock mastermind Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality), who helped out on production this time around. While Goss is undoubtedly a maverick when it comes to sunstroke sludge rock, his blurry style brings out Lavelle's lack of focus, resulting in several five-minute-plus mystical marathons that ride one mediocre riff all the way to glam-stomp oblivion. As for the guest list, either Lavelle misplaced a lot of phone numbers over the last decade or he's getting used to hearing "no" more often. Queens leader Josh Homme is joined by increasingly ancient Cult singer (and sometime Jim Morrison stand-in) Ian Astbury and Massive Attack's 3D. Elsewhere, second (third?) tier British garage rockers Duke Spirit, whiny folkie Gavin Clark, and producer File pop-up, too. It's even gotten to the point where Lavelle himself gets on the mic and does his best blank shoegazer on two tracks. Somewhere, Thom Yorke is not listening to War Stories.

The album's few salvageable moments are also the most rhythmic. "Burn My Shadow", with its pinpoint, stop-start snares and Astbury's wilting croon is close to harrowing and, like "Rabbit in Your Headlights" and "Eye for an Eye" before it, the song's exceptional video gives its new-age lyrics some much needed context. The Homme-sung "Restless" is an industrial-funk high that takes advantage of the singer's lofty falsetto...even if it's nearly over by the time it fully kicks in. Hazy L.A. rockers Autolux's "Persons & Machinery" drags its ticky-tack metronome beat out about two minutes too long, but the song's central lyric-- a mix of apathy and anger aimed at Blair-Bush-- is one of the few that lives up to the album's provocative title: "Please just follow your great plan through/ We've had it with you." Elsewhere, moody epics "Twilight" and "Price You Pay" are so ethereal they quickly evaporate into nothing. The string-laden chug-a-lug scuzz rockers aren't worth mentioning by name.

So, after trying to move things forward for so long-- first with his Mo' Wax label and then with UNKLE's early incarnations-- James Lavelle takes it back to a Britpop B-side wasteland filled with has-beens and never-will-be's. Such willful nostalgia doesn't do him many favors. While Lavelle's previous work can still be looked upon as visionary, his latest is anything but. Even with its repeatable tracks sounding instantly dated, War Stories marks the official end of this one-time progressive's soothsaying days".

Prices for this original, 2007 UK factory sealed, Uber-rare, stone cold mind of “U.N.K.L.E. War Stories” stickered deluxe gatefold double vinyl LP set continue to rise. It was pressed up in unknown small vinyl quantities, so it's very rare now.  The sealed copies hardly ever turn up and will be increased in value. To find this sealed is a special event, but to find it in such pristine condition (Crisp Corners, No Cuts, No Ring Wears), like it just came off the factory shelf, almost beggars belief. So do your research and ask the right question before you buy this.

Don't miss your chance to complete your U.N.K.L.E. collection with this hard-to-find rarity in pristine/sealed condition. This is my last copy for ever. Do not second guess yourself on this masterpiece because once gone it's gone forever and will skyrocket in price on the collectors market
