UNKNOWN 1950s BLUES / DOO WOP 78 rpm ACETATE ~~ BACK TO ROSALIE + 2 others. GREAT LAKES LABEL? SAX KARI ?
78 RPM 12" ACETATE in VG condition (a fair amount of scattered light scuffs and rub marks but still decent gloss and plays well. Some light noise -- no cracks in finish).
This is a 12" demo ACETATE from the early to mid-50s (read more about acetates below)
I received this acetate many years ago …. included a collection of really old radio station promo stuff
I have no definite idea who this jump vocal group or this female singer is. However, this disc was found side by side with some other acetates from the GREAT LAKES label (the label that released the 1950s doo wop group the Imperials). I believe these are more recordings intended for the GREAT LAKES label though I cannot prove it YET. In 2011 I sold 3 of the others from this find and they were all GREAT LAKES recordings. However, an hour or so of searching the internet, blogs, discographies and more reveals nothing about these mystery titles. I believe it to be Sax Kari's band with a vocal group, possibly the Mello-Larks or Musketeers maybe. It does not really sound like the Imperials. Pure conjecture except that the sax solos sound very much like Sax Kari. After careful listening I think the 3 songs here are almost certainly intended to be called #1) "Back To Rosalie", #2) "Showtime" and #3) "Willie Willie"(the female vocal song).. ONE THING FOR SURE the male group tracks here are outstanding jump sides. Great stuff.

Also, the sound file posted is missing some content. This is to protect the rights of the auction winner and to still give bidders as much information as possible. Any removed content plays fine. The audio sample was made on a Numark turntable (with new needle)….. disc will probably sound better with a proper 78 needle and turntable.
There are no type written labels typical to most acetate demos and it is unusual to see these on 12" format. I have NO DOUBT that they are vintage 1950s. There is a number in the center but that is just a lot control number from the blank acetate supplier. A great opportunity to own this unusual demo
ACETATES are plastic coated aluminum discs that were custom "cut" at the studio and used for demos or reference. They are meant for temporary use but will last well if stored well and played sparingly. Many of the most unique and rare moments in record collecting are recorded only on acetates
