A very presentable and nice condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1971 UK very 1st pressing prog rock classic, on the coveted UK Vertigo large swirl label, 6360 028

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   6360028  1Y  1  with stampers "420  1  4" at 7 o'clock respectively

Side 2   6360028  2Y  1  with stampers "1  1  1" at 11 o'clock respectively

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and nicely weighted vinyl is very good plus (EX+). Both sides have retained an impressive jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight show no obvious sign of wear and tear. Under a very bright light, and with close scrutiny, it is possible to detect somey wispy hairlines and just a few very light and small scuff marks but these are all non-"feelable" and appear to be surface only and non-intrusive in terms of both appearance and sound quality (excellent throughout). Impressive, and hard to believe that this record is a 49 year old antiquity!

The labels are excellent (EX). Iconic, lovely conditionl labels with the coveted Vertigo swirl still beautifully intact on each label and the black text on the smooth textured white background on Side B remaining perfectly intact in all it's glory. Under a bright light I can just make out a few small spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. But apart from that, perfect! 

The non-laminated gatefold sleeve is very good+ (VG+).  Such an iconic sleeve, and becoming hard to come across a UK original. All edges remain firm with mild but obvious scuffing on the top two edges and some intermittent, very light scuffing on the bottom edges. The spine remains very nicely rigid with all text perfectly intact and the opening sides are also firm with no fraying. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with light minimal rubbing only. The condition of the inside of the gatefold is excellent with just a few very light and barely noticeable light storage marks and in the right light, and when tilted at the right angle, some very light ring wear on the text side of the gatefold does come into view. No unwanted writing or doodles, no creasing and all artwork, photos and colours remain in rich, vibrant and clearly defined format - impressive and highly presentable still!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent (EX). Wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies, as you would expect from a record that appears to have been underplayed over the decades. You may notice the very occasional nano second of static and/or light background click and just the hint of some very light background crackle at the beginning and the end of each side and during a couple of the quieter moments, but all of this is minor, non-intrusive and does little to diminish the overall excellent sound quality. Brilliant!

Comes with original poly-lined Vertigo inner sleeve (a rarity in it's own right) with the original "British Patent No..." and "MADE IN ENGLAND" text, with no tears but an 8cm split in each of the side edges and some mild but clearly noticeable age discolouration/browning adjacent to the edges. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a very nice condition copy and highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1971 UK very 1st pressing prog rock classic - a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
