URIAH HEEP - VERY 'EAVY VERY 'UMBLE

A truly impressive copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1970 UK original, early pressing of this prog rock classic, on the Vertigo (large swirl) label, 6360 006

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  6360006 1Y//1 420 with stampers "1 1 4" at 8 o'clock 

Side 2  6360006 2Y//1 420 with stampers "1 1 1" at 9 o'clock

The appearance of the flat, thick vinyl is truly excellent plus (EX+). Gleaming vinyl with jet black lacquering and in normal daylight no obviously detectable marks at all. Even with close scrutiny and under an intense light I could only identify a few small, very faint paper scuffs...insignificant. Truly brilliant condition vinyl and clearly having been played sparingly. It's now becoming increasingly rare to come across original UK "large swirl" original pressings in as good a condition as this.

The labels are excellent+. Beautiful smooth textured labels with no unwanted writing or marks, and the iconic Vertigo logos, on both the side 1 and side 2 labels, perfectly intact, as is all of the text. If it wasn't for the fact that a couple of very light, small spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each are just detectable under a bright light, I would grade the labels as "near mint". 

The laminated gatefold outer sleeve is a solid excellent. Such an iconic sleeve, and so rare to come across a true UK original pressing in condition as impressive as this. Amazingly there is barely any scuffing or rubbing on any of the edges, the opening sides are firm with no feathering, and each corner remains a well defined right angle with just minimal rubbing on each corner. There is no cardboard creasing and the colouring remains rich and vibrant. The spine remains firm with no scuffing and all text is perfectly intact. On the reverse side there is a 3cm vertical laminate crease accompanied by just the hint of a little edge fraying adjacent to that laminate crease/lifting - nothing nasty or serious but it is noticeable; and there are some ( I counted nine) very light 1cm or less laminate creases perpendicular and adjacent to all edges including the spine - nothing intrusive at all and only really noticeable under scrutiny of a bright light. The inside of the gate fold is excellent plus - no laminate on the inside and with all photography, text and colour remaining beautifully intact. Very impressive.

Finally, the quality of the audio is simply brilliant. No clicks, no skips, repeats or jumps, and just the hint of a little background crackle at the very beginning and end of each side and during a couple of the quieter moments ("Come Away Melinda" is always the real test for sound quality on this album and on this particular copy it plays beautifully)...nothing significant here at all; just great stereo audio reproduction with brilliant tone and clarity throughout even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. Even after all of these years, the opening bars of "Gypsy" still makes my spine tingle. Classic prog rock, heavy rock...call it what you like, it's simply a great album which has more than stood the test of time. Enjoy!

Comes with original poly lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve, with the original "MADE IN ENGLAND", "British Patent...", and "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS..." texts, and with no splits or tears - just a little creasing towards the bottom corners and some light age discolouration towards the edges, and remaining 100% fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly excellent copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1970 UK original pressing prog rock classic - worthy of gracing any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
