URIAH HEEP - ...very 'eavy ...very 'umble
An impressive, rare and highly sought after copy of this 1970 UK 1st press prog rock gem on the coveted large VERTIGO SWIRL label, 6360 006

The appearance of the vinyl is very good+. Nice jet black lacquered sheen, completely flat and an impressive gleaming appearance. There are some light surface marks in the form of surface paper scuffs and small wispy hairlines, more noticeable when viewed under a bright light....the exceptions to this are a single spider line on side 1 and two further wispy hairlines on side 2 which are (just) visible in normal daylight. But no scratches and certainly nothing below the surface. Impressive.
The labels are excellent - the only blemishes are some very light, faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side.
The laminated gatefold sleeve is again a strong very good. The only real blemish is a number of 1-2cm laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the top, bottom and side edges, with a further obvious 11cm laminate crease on the reverse side towards the bottom left corner. There is no scuffing or rubbing on the bottom and top edges and the opening sides are excellent with none of the usual fraying. The spine does have a little mild, occasional rubbing and laminate creasing...basically it looks just a little grubby, and the corners have just a little rubbing. The inside of the gatefold is excellent with just a little rubbing towards the top left edge but everything else, including colouring and writing, is excellent. Hold this sleeve in your hands and it still feels iconic.
Finally, the quality of the audio is an overall VERY GOOD+. Much of the audio quality is excellent and every single track makes for a great listen. No skips, pops, clicks (apart from four light clicks on side 2 - one on the first track, another on the 3rd, and two others on the final track), or nasty distortion - in fact, great tone and clarity at even higher volume - but there is just a little background crackle. Nothing particularly intrusive at all and, of course, due to the nature of the music, the only times this background crackle/static is noticeable are at the beginning and end of each side, during the interludes, and during some of the quieter moments (there aren't many!). Having said that the quieter "Come Away Melinda" plays through beautifully. A great listen throughout.

Comes with original poly-lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve with no splits or tears but does have some creasing down the middle and towards the corners(see photo). I always supply a new plain white inner as a matter of course.
In summary a strong VERY GOOD copy of this scarce and highly sought after 1971 UK prog rock 1st press classic - some obvious but minor blemishes and a must for any serious prog rock vinyl collection.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint
Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good
Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair
Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor
Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad
Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
