Description
County Records 769. From childhood, long before he was the distinguished senator from West Virginia, Robert Byrd (1917-2010) was a fiddler, and in 1978 he laid these tracks down for posterity. Writes Alan Jabbour, director of the American Folklife Center, in the liner notes: "All these songs and tunes constitute and art that evokes the traditional life of the American countryside. It is a tribute to Robert Byrd that he has continued to treasure and preserve that art, and a tribute to the art itself that it has proved so well worth preserving."
The record and cover are in very good to excellent condition. The spine is worn through about 1.25" along the middle - a split in the outer paper but not yet the cardboard underneath. More than a novelty record, more than a historic treasure, this is also a very nice bluegrass album.
