Cult bands, cult sampler....and in near mint condition. Old eBay prices: $92 + $87 + $79 + $79 again. A legendary all-time classic from the States, released in 1982. You are bidding on West Coast History. Your record collection is definitely not complete if you don't have this 47 bands, 47 tracks sampler. This double album goes by the title NOT SO QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. It is the original first pressing, released on Jello Biafra’s famous US punk label ‘Alternative Tentacles’ records (catalogue number VIRUS 14). The picture sleeve was designed with the help of Tim Yohannan of the Maximum Rock N Roll magazine.  Legendary Bay Area compilation with tons of great bands. Music ranges from simple garage punk to great hardcore. This has pretty much all the Northern Californian punk bands that mattered back then.... the list goes on and on. It might be important to mention that the bands that turned rock/emo/whatever in the mid-80s (like MIA, Social Unrest or 7 Seconds) still play pure hardcore here. Not everything here qualifies as classic punk or hardcore, but this is an essential document nonetheless.

 Man wird förmlich erschlagen von der Masse der Bands, es ist so ziemlich alles dabei, was damals Rang & Namen in der Bay Area hatte. Es ist unmöglich, hier alle Bands einzeln vorzustellen; die Stilrichtungen reichen von dilettantischem Kellerpunk bis hin zu genialen Kostbarkeiten; wer sich die Tracklist ansieht, wird schon einen Eindruck von dem bekommen, was ihn erwartet. Bemerkenswert ist, daß die meisten heute etablierten Bands hier noch mit frühen/einfachen Cuts vertreten sind; ganz allgemein ist diese Platte unbedingt empfehlenswert, vielleicht weniger wegen der Qualität der Tracks, sondern eher als Dokument einer wichtigen Periode einer sehr agilen Scene.
