UBER-RARE VELVET FROGS OAK RECORDS ACETATE:'WASTED GROUND' AKA 'MEMENTO MORI'
This acetate of the song known as 'Wasted Ground' or 'Memento Mori' was the product of the second and final Velvet Frogs session at R.G. Jones studio in 1968. One recent listener described the recording as 'an eerie, atmospheric piece with the doomy chanting vocals and the jagged, sometimes dischordant intrumentation giving a sort of appocolyptic feel to the whole track.'
This 6 minute track has a slow, eerie waltz tempo and features harmonium, violin and doom-laden vocals recalling the early Nico/Cale collaborations. There were only two acetates cut from this session. This is probably the only chance an Oak/60's/psych collector will get to own this extremely rare disc!!!!!!!
The acetate is in good, playable condition with surface scuffs and scratches as you would expect on a disc over 40 years old-(there is a slight jump at 4.29 mins in).
Record Collector imagined a parallel 60's in the UK with the Frogs playing the Roundhouse with their version of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable! They are listed inTapestry of Delights. They have been described as 'deliciously mysterioso' and 'Jehovah' was issued on 'The Story of Oak Records' and can be heard on YouTube. The lucky buyer of this unique artyfact will receive a Velvet Frogs business card from 1968!
